COBB COUNTY, Ga. — Two people are seriously hurt after a crash involving a motorcycle and a car over the weekend, according to the Cobb County Police Department.
The police department's Special Operations Selective Traffic Enforcement Program Unit is investigating the collision, which occurred on Sunday just after 9:45 p.m. on Chastain Road at Barrett Lakes Boulevard. Google Maps shows the intersection is down the road from Kennesaw State University.
Authorities said their preliminary investigation revealed a black 2024 Suzuki GSX-R1000 motorcycle, operated by an unidentified man and also carrying a passenger, was traveling east on Chastain toward Barrett Lakes Boulevard.
Simultaneously, investigators said a white 2017 Lexus ES350 was traveling west on Chastain in the dedicated left turn lane. Cobb Police said the driver of the Lexus began a left turn on a green arrow and entered the path of the motorcycle. That's when investigators said the motorcycle entered the intersection on a red signal and collided with the Lexus on its right side.
Cobb Police said both people on the motorcycle were thrown off as the motorcycle continued to fall on its left side and collide with the Lexus.
According to the police department, they both fell in the eastbound lanes of Chastain while the Lexus came to a stop in the intersection.
Authorities said the motorcycle riders were transported to Wellstar Kennestone Hospital with serious injuries, and the driver of the Lexus was also taken to the hospital injured.
Investigators are still working to identify the man who was driving the motorcycle. The collision remains under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to contact Cobb County Police at 770-499-3987.
