Cobb County detainee dies, sheriff says

Authorities believe the detainee may have suffered an aneurysm.

ATLANTA — A Cobb County detainee died after being rushed to the hospital Saturday afternoon, according to authorities.

The Cobb County Sheriff's Office said Jose Razo died just before 2 p.m. at Kennestone Hospital. They believe he may have suffered an aneurysm.

Razo's cellmate noticed he was unresponsive and pressed the emergency button that's located in their cell. When staff members and medical personnel arrived to help, the sheriff's office said they administered life-saving measures.

An ambulance took the detainee to the hospital; his family was notified as well.

The sheriff's office said the Cobb County Medical Examiner will determine the official cause of Razo's death.

Deputies contacted the Georgia Bureau of Investigation to look into the incident. And as a standard practice, the sheriff's office plans to conduct an internal investigation.
