House fire displaces eight people in Cobb County

It happened Wednesday night at a home on Green Drive.

COBB COUNTY, Ga. — A house fire Wednesday night in Cobb County left eight people displaced, officials said.

The fire happened on Green Drive, not far from Macland Road. A statement from Cobb County Fire & Emergency Services Public Information Officer Chris Smith said there were no injuries.

According to Smith, early information points to a space heater as the cause of the fire, though an investigation is ongoing.

Crews arrived on scene, Smith said, and found a heavy fire in the corner of the home coming from the basement.

"Crews quickly confirmed that everyone was out of the house. The fire was extinguished and 8 people were displaced from the home," a statement said. "The Red Cross is assisting the family."

Cobb Fire added: "We would like to remind everyone to please make sure you have at least 3 feet of clearance around all space heaters. Its not a good idea to use space heaters unattended or during the night while you are sleeping. You can find more information about space heater safety here."
