COBB COUNTY, Ga. — A person is dead after getting hit by a vehicle while walking on Thanksgiving evening, police said.

According to the Cobb County Police Department, the collision happened on South Cobb Drive south of its intersection with Appleton Drive on Thursday shortly after 7:30 p.m.

The preliminary investigation indicates that an unidentified male was walking east across South Cobb Drive outside of a marked crosswalk, police said. At that same time, a gray 2016 Ford Escape was heading north in the right lane of South Cobb Drive.

That's when police said the Ford hit the person walking. After this, the Ford came to a controlled rest in a driveway on the 800 block of South Cobb Drive.

The male was sent to the hospital, where he later died from his injuries. His age or identity is currently unknown.

This collision remains under investigation, police said. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Cobb County Police Department's STEP Unit at 770-499-3987.
