Crews battling apartment fire in College Park | What to know

Fire crews had flames under control, but around 6:30 a.m., flames reignited.
This is what we know.

COLLEGE PARK, Ga. — Crews with the College Park Fire Department are working to put out flames at an apartment complex on Friday morning.

Not many details have been released, but it happened at Langston Apartments on Godby Road. Fire crews had flames under control, but around 6:30 a.m., flames reignited.

11Alive Reporter Liza Lucas is on the scene and says she spoke with a mother who had just gotten married three weeks ago. She adds that everything her family owns is gone less than two weeks before the Christmas holiday.

Another told Lucas that he had to jump from the third-floor balcony of the apartment building to escape this morning.

As of 7:30 a.m., the blaze was still burning.

Officials with Fulton County Schools are monitoring the fire, given its proximity to nearby schools, and said they would continue class as usual. See their full statement below:

"Our emergency response team is closely monitoring the situation due to its proximity to our school. At this time, there has been no significant impact to school operations. Teaching and learning are continuing as usual."
