COLLEGE PARK, Ga. — College Park officials are investigating after what appears to be official city documents were reportedly found in a commercial recycling dumpster.

According to the city, these documents were reportedly discovered near City Hall and off Harvard Avenue. The documents were discovered but were not shared or turned in to the city or the police department for over a week. Officials said that as of Monday, they have yet to receive any official notification or report of concern but that select media and state law enforcement agencies were alerted to the existence of the documents.

According to a release from the City of College Park, video and images of the documents appear to show a variety of confidential information, including financial reports, expenses, vendor contracts and invoices, and other city documents- some marked confidential and including signatures from various city department heads. In the release, officials said there is a strict shedding and destruction protocol for any confidential documents leaving City Hall or being recycled.

Officials added that after a full review and if the evidence suggests, a criminal investigation could potentially be initiated. In addition, if the action was found to be intentional, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation or the Georgia Attorney General's Office may file further criminal action.

"Security, privacy and any criminal property breaches of this nature will not be tolerated by the City of College Park, and all aspects of the city's investigation will become public record upon the completion of the investigation or at the point of any criminal referral," a statement from the city read.
