COLLEGE PARK, Ga. -- Two men were arrested and a stolen weapon was recovered during a traffic stop in College Park Wednesday morning.
It began when a police officer spotted a Chevrolet pickup truck with an obscured tag on Sullivan Road. College Park Police Sgt. 1st Class Nicholas Duffey said a towel was wrapped around the truck's license plate.
Police attempted a traffic stop, but the truck sped away. Duffey said the people inside the vehicle began throwing items out of the windows.
The chase ended at the intersection of Riverdale and West Fayetteville roads, when police deployed spikes and blew out the truck's front driver side tire. Officers followed the truck until it stopped on Interstate 85 south near the Old National Highway bridge. The two men inside the vehicle tried to run, but were quickly caught by police. Their names were not released.
Duffey said investigators found two firearms inside the truck. One of the guns was reported stolen in Alabama.
The investigation continues.
