Fulton County mother pledges to 'Stop The Violence' in her son's memory

Mother of shooting victim organizes rally after her son was gunned down at College Park apartment complex

COLLEGE PARK, Ga. — A mother is using her voice to spark change. She says it's simple -- she wants to help end gun violence.

Her son, Gregory Gallishaw, was shot and killed in 2017.

On Saturday, she helped organize a Stop The Violence rally in the South Fulton area.

The crowd's message was clear.

"I will continue to raise the awareness," the speaker said. "I will continue to ask for the violence to end!"

On Saturday afternoon, community members and leaders gathered for the Stop The Violence rally.

"We are trying to take the streets back from gun violence, so no other mother be in the seat that I'm sitting in," said Marie Gallishaw, Gregory's mother.

Marie spearheaded the event.

It took place exactly where her son was gunned down, at an apartment complex in College Park.

Marie Gallishaw says one of the shooting suspects, Kentavious Patterson, was firing gunshot rounds into the air.

She says her son, a father of four, asked him to stop -- but the suspect shot Gregory as he walked away. Another suspect, Trazion Brown was also charged in the shooting.

"At 1:00, I got a text saying my son was shot 11 times in the back and in the chest," Marie said.

Gregory was the focus of of a news conference on Tuesday, using her voice then to help stop gun violence.

On Saturday, she used her voice again as she stood beside other parents who lost their children to gun violence, also.

"it’s a support system so a lot of us mothers get together now as a support system," she said. "We go to court with one another and if we are having a bad day we pray for one another."

There was a motions hearing this week for the two men charged in Gregory Gallishaw's death. A trial date has not yet been set.
