COLLEGE PARK, Ga. -- College Park police are attempting to identify human remains found during a police chase in the city, Friday.
Police said they were chaising an auto theft suspect near apartments in the 2100 block of Godby Road when they called in the Atlanta Police Department's tracking dogs.
But the units inadvertently stumbled across the partial remains of an unidentified person 30 yards from an apartment complex.
College Park Police Chief Keith Meadows said that they currently have less than half of a full skeleton including a skull. At this time, police don't know if the remains, which Meadows believes have been in the location for a couple of years, belong to a man or woman. They have been sent to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) Crime Lab for analysis.
At this time, investigators are crosschecking missing persons reports for possible leads.
The GBI is also assisting College Park police with crime scene work and evidence collection.
