ATLANTA — Construction is set to begin on the Atlanta BeltLine for an improvement project at the intersection of 10th Street and Monroe Drive on Sunday, according to a BeltLine press release.
The intersection will be fully closed beginning the evening of June 9, with expected 24-hour closures through the evening of June 14. In the case of adverse weather, the closure will be rescheduled to June 16-20.
Following the full closures, single lanes will be closed Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. to complete sidewalk construction, which should be finished by September, according to the release.
Detour routes will take travelers via Kanuga to Virginia and Charles Allen to 8th Street. Park Tavern will remain open along 10th Street, officials added in the release.
The project is part of the the ongoing construction of the Northeast Trail – Segment 1, which aims to "enhance pedestrian and bicycle safety and accessibility" in the area.
The project includes a 10th Street bike lane with direct access to the BeltlLine, a raised pedestrian crossing and improved crossing and pedestrian signals at intersections, all to enhance trail-user and pedestrian safety. New traffic signals will also help manage traffic flow and improve safety.
