ORIGINAL: The Georgia Department of Corrections is looking for a convicted murderer who walked away from a facility in Atlanta.
A statewide BOLO has been issued Wednesday for Charles Smith, who left the Atlanta Transition Center. The 52-year-old was living at the facility while completing his parole.
Smith served time after he was convicted for a murder that happened back in 1992, according to the GDOC website. He was sentenced to life with parole.
Smith became eligible for parole in December 1999, after being denied several times, according to GDOC. He was granted parole in March 2021 after serving 28 years of his life sentence.
Smith was on parole under supervision in the transition home until officials discovered violations last month, GDOC said.
He is 5-feet 10-inches tall, weighs 201 pounds and has black hair and brown eyes. Smith was last seen wearing black pants and a black shirt, the GDOC said.
If you see Smith, the GDOC urges you not to approach him. Call 911 or the GDOC at 478-992-5111.
