Conyers chemical plume | BioLab opens Community Assistance Center for residents, business owners

Rockdale County Deputy Chief Jimmy Robinson said the priority is ensuring the community has access to all necessary resources in the wake of this event.

ROCKDALE COUNTY, Ga. — BioLab is opening a Community Assistance Center on Tuesday to provide support for residents and business owners affected by the chemical plume that followed a fire at the Conyers facility.

A release said information can be found at a new website that did not appear to be live yet as of Tuesday morning.

The Unified Command announced the opening of the center on Monday and said it is part of ongoing efforts to expand services for the community and work to remediate the situation at the facility. The Unified Command includes U.S. Environmental Protection Agency representatives, the Georgia Environmental Protection Division, Rockdale County and BioLab.

Rockdale County Deputy Chief Jimmy Robinson said the priority is ensuring the community has access to all necessary resources in the wake of this event. 

"BioLab has told us they will do whatever it takes -- for as long as it takes -- to support our community," Robinson said. "To that end, this center will serve as a resource for residents, providing financial assistance, answering questions and providing the support our community needs during this time."

Location 

  • 927 North Main Street NW, Conyers, GA 30012 

Hours of operation 

  • Opens on Oct. 15. From that point the hours are Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. 

Services provided

  • Residents and business owners will be able to make claims and reimbursement appointments and get assistance with general information and inquiries. 

Scheduling appoints

This can be done at biolabcommunityresources.com. That site was not yet live Tuesday morning at 8 a.m. A release said limited walk-in appointments would be available daily on a first-come-first-served basis.

There is also a hotline available at 678-301-2359 for making appointments.
