CONYERS, Ga. — A Conyers officer shot and killed a man who allegedly fired at police after pulling off taser probes during a gas station encounter, according to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.
The GBI said the incident began about 7 a.m. at the Chevron on Sigman Road. A clerk inside the gas station mart called 911 and reported a man, identified as 40-year-old Jesse Roach of Carrollton, had "threatened him with a gun."
When officers arrived they found Rocha inside the mart and as they were "attempting to detain and identify Roach, Roach pushed past them and exited the store," according to a GBI release.
The release describes officers attempting to tase Roach, but he "was able to remove the taser proves" and then "pulled a gun from his pocket and shot at the Conyers PD officers."
"Officers returned fire, hitting and wounding Roach. Roach was taken to Piedmont Rockdale where he was pronounced dead," the GBI release said.
The Conyers Police Department earlier reported the shooting without details.
"The GBI will conduct an independent investigation. Once complete, the case file will be given to the Rockdale County District Attorney’s Office for review," the GBI said.
