Ex-Rockdale deputy accused of pawning guns for cash arrested

Former Rockdale County Sheriff's deputy Daniel James Lang is accused of obtaining destruction orders for police firearms and pawning the guns for cash

CONYERS, Ga. – A former deputy of the Rockdale County Sheriff’s Office, under investigation by the Georgia Bureau of Investigations for allegedly pawning guns, has been arrested.

Authorities charged Dan Lang, 37, with multiple counts of theft by taking (firearms), theft of excess of $40,000 and one count of violation of oath of office.

The Rockdale County Sheriff's Office asked the GBI to investigate Lang back in April. Lang is accused of obtaining destruction orders for police firearms and pawning the guns for cash, GBI investigators said. Rockdale County Sheriff's Office asked the GBI to investigate.

Lang resigned from the Rockdale County Sheriff’s Office on April 9, 2018, for “personal and family reasons,” according to the department. He was hired by the department in 2002.

Lang turned himself in to the Rockdale County jail without incident.
