ROCKDALE COUNTY, Ga. -- One person was killed and at least one more was seriously injured in a crash in Rockdale County Thursday night.
It happened at around 11:30 p.m. at Sigman Road and Old Covington Highway in Conyers.
The Rockdale County Sheriff's Office said the incident began with a wrong-way driver. A deputy spotted a Hyundai Santa Fe heading north in the southbound lane of Sigman Road and followed the SUV.
The Santa Fe collided with a black Kia with two people inside. The Georgia State Patrol said the Kia's female driver was pronounced dead at the scene. A male passenger was airlifted to Grady Memorial Hospital in serious condition.
After being hit by the Santa Fe, the Kia hit a pickup truck, then all three vehicles slammed into the pursuing deputy's car. The deputy was taken to a nearby hospital; his condition was not immediately known.
No charges have been filed yet, as the crash is under investigation. The GSP said the female driver of the Santa Fe is also suspected of causing a hit-and-run accident in the parking lot of a gas station near the scene.
