NEWTON COUNTY, Ga. -- The oldest certified on-duty peace officer in Georgia celebrated his birthday last weekend.
Jack Simpson turned 91 on July 4. His colleagues at the Newton County Sheriff's Office held a birthday party Monday.
Simpson began working in law enforcement in the 1950's. He has been a Newton County Sheriff's deputy for more than 15 years, and also spent 23 years as a special agent with the FBI.
Simpson turned 91 just two days before Susannah Mushatt Jones, the oldest person in the world, celebrated her 116th birthday. Jones took the crown after Georgia-born Jeralean Talley died May 17, less than a month after turning 116.
