COWETA COUNTY, Ga. — An 11-year-old was rescued Tuesday in Coweta County in a SWAT operation at a home where a man had "threatened to kill the entire family," the sheriff's office said.

The Coweta County Sheriff's Office said in a release that the incident occurred at a home on Couch Road.

A woman had called 911 to report her boyfriend assaulting her and that he "threatened to kill the entire family, had access to weapons and would not go back to jail."

The man was identified as Michael Keith Burns. It was not clear what was being referenced with what he would go back to jail for.

The sheriff's office said when deputies arrived on scene, they found the woman and another family member in the street and learned that there was still an 11-year-old inside the home sleeping.

SWAT units from Coweta County, Newnan Police and Fulton County were all part of the operation, a release said, and once they entered the home they were able to rescue the 11-year-old and turn the child over to a family member uninjured.

"SWAT then began calling out the suspect who surrendered and was taken into custody without further incident," the release said.

Burns was taken to Coweta County Jail and is facing charges of aggravated assault and simple battery - family violence.
