1 killed after multi-vehicle crash pushed SUV into guardrail over creek: Cobb Police

Authorities responded to the crash at Hicks Road at Fisher Drive on Tuesday afternoon.

COBB COUNTY, Ga. — One person is dead after a four-car crash at a busy Cobb County intersection Tuesday afternoon, according to the police department.

Authorities responded to the crash shortly after 3:30 p.m. at Hicks Road at Fisher Drive. The road at Fisher Drive and the East-West Connector was closed for several hours.

According to the Cobb Police Department's preliminary investigation, a white GMC Sierra was traveling south on Hicks Road. At the same time, investigators said a black GMC Yukon XL was traveling north on Hicks Road-- followed by a silver Ford Escape and a grey Hyundai Sonata-- both also traveling north.

Investigators believe the GMC Sierra crossed the center line and collided with the left side of the Yukon, causing the Yukon to flip onto its side and stop on the shoulder. The GMC Sierra then continued south in the northbound lane and collided with the Ford Escape-- pushing the Ford Escape into a guardrail over a creek, the police department said. The GMC Sierra also crashed with the Hyundai Sonata, according to investigators.

The driver of the GMC Sierra was taken to Cobb Hospital with injuries, the driver of the  Hyundai Sonata was taken to Wellstar Kennestone Hospital with injuries, and the driver of the Ford Escape was pronounced dead at the crash scene, according to the police department.

Meanwhile, police said the driver of the GMC Yukon XL was not injured.
