BUCKHEAD, Ga. — Roads are still closed around a massive sinkhole in Buckhead on Tuesday night.
The good news is that water service has been restored to residents and the majority of businesses, according to a news release from the Atlanta Department of Water Management.
Crews are in the next phase of work and are prepared to make repairs late into the night.
Restaurants told 11Alive they noticed problems with water pressure weeks ago.
A spokesperson for the Atlanta Department of Watershed said there was a six-inch water main break.
Steve Parker said he's lived in the area for 45 years.
"It hurts their business," Parker said. "And I feel bad for them. R Thomas', of course, is a legendary place, too. And it's been there longer than I have, I think, but I'm sure they're not happy tonight," Parker said.
Parker watched the construction from across the street in awe.
"There are so many sinkholes around Atlanta now that nothing much is a surprise," Parker said. "And we lost our water here in the neighborhood on Christmas Eve for 24 hours, but luckily, this time, at least on our street, we've got water."
Three lanes remain closed as crews finish the work. Traffic signs are in place to help traffic move through the work. However, officials are asking drivers to avoid the area if possible.
11Alive's Traffic Expert, Crash Clark, said to use Piedmont Road and Northside Drive to get around the area.
