Police searching for alleged driver in deadly hit-and-run on I-85/I-75 connector

​It happened around 11:50 p.m. when officers responded to a report of a car accident on I-85 northbound near 17th Street.

ATLANTA — Atlanta Police are now searching for a driver in a deadly hit-and-run on the I-75/I-85 connector Sunday night. 

It happened around 11:50 p.m. when officers responded to a report of a car accident on I-85 northbound near 17th Street. When they arrived on the scene, they found the driver of a Kia Optima critically injured. 

The driver was taken to the hospital, where they later died. The Fulton County Medical Examiner identified the driver who died as Abari J. Meade, 27.

After investigating, police said that a driver of a Chevrolet Suburban was traveling at the I-75/I-85 northbound split when they cut across the gore and entered into I-85.

When the Chevrolet Suburban driver cut into the gore, they hit the Kia Optima, which was parked on the right shoulder. 

The driver of the Chevrolet Suburban left the scene, and police are now searching for them. 

Police are still investigating and trying to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
