GSP investigating deadly crash after motorcyclist killed following pursuit with authorities in Clarke County: police

CLARKE COUNTY, Ga. — A motorcyclist has died after a crash following a police pursuit on Thursday afternoon in Clarke County, according to the Athens Clarke-County Police Department. 

The incident happened around 5:48 p.m. when an Oglethorpe County Sheriff's Office cruiser pursued the motorcycle into Clarke County on Lexington Road. 

Athens Clarke-County Police said its department was not involved in the pursuit.

Authorities added that the motorcyclist then hit a vehicle as they approached the intersection of Lexington Road and Woodgrove Drive, killing the driver on impact. 

It's unclear why authorities pursued the motorcyclist. The Georgia State Patrol will be investigating the incident. 

According to the Athens Clarke-County Police Department, it is the seventh deadly crash in the area this year.
