DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. -- There was no verdict reached, but yet another strange twist in the Burrell Ellis corruption trial on Friday.
After Thursday's deliberations were cut short due to a conflict among jury members, a juror apologized to the presiding judge.
The juror wrote a handwritten letter to Judge Courtney Johnson, who read it aloud in court Friday morning. The letter claims the juror felt bullied and attacked, but is sincerely sorry:
I want to apologize for the disturbance that took place in the jury room. I honestly felt attacked/bullied for having a voice and actually deliberating. Some are not saying anything because they are clearly ready to retire. I truly believe the DA's office and the defense team both worked extremely hard on this case. It's only fair for me as a juror to take this position serious.
Friday morning was quiet as jurors deliberated for the fifth day.
Jurors sent a request to the Judge Johnson asking for Monday off. Monday is a holiday. While the court in open, many schools are not. The judge reluctantly agreed.
Deliberations will resume on Tuesday.
