DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — An 8-year-old boy died days after a "pool-related incident" in DeKalb County, authorities confirmed on Monday.
The incident happened last Thursday, and Ghani Abubakari was rushed to the hospital at the time. Police said they were told medical teams were initially able to revive the boy to the point of finding a pulse.
The DeKalb County Medical Examiner's Office confirmed Ghani had died following those initial reports.
Last week, DeKalb Police said units were dispatched to an apartment complex on Druid Valley Drive with reports of a "juvenile male who was involved in a pool related incident."
They found the child unconscious and not breathing outside the pool, where they performed CPR before he was rushed to the hospital.
The exact details of what happened to the boy at the pool were not provided by police.
