DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — Two DeKalb County elementary schools have claimed the top spots in U.S. News & World Report Georgia rankings.
According to the district, the annual rankings list Kittredge Magnet School and Wadsworth Magnet School for High Achievers as the No. 1 and No. 2 elementary schools in the state, respectively.
The company views great schools as educating students from all socioeconomic backgrounds to set them up for success. Students should develop core competencies in state curricula that will best prepare them for high school and beyond.
The K-8 rankings are based entirely on publicly available U.S. Department of Education data. It focuses on state assessments of students proficient in math and reading/language arts, as well as accounting for student background and overall effectiveness in education. Student-teacher ratios are used to break ties in the overall score.
Managing Editor for Education at U.S. News & World Report LaMont Jones said that the 2024 Best Elementary and Middle Schools rankings offer a way for parents to get a snapshot of where their kid goes to school and how well the institution is doing within its community.
"Easily accessible data on student-teacher ratio, district spending, and the number of school counselors available at the school can keep parents informed and involved," Jones said.
DeKalb County School Superintendent Devon Horton said the recognition reflects the hard work and dedication of all involved.
"It is the collective efforts and results of so many that we are able to provide work-class opportunity to every student and proud graduate of DeKalb County Schools," Horton said.
The two elementary schools were not the only ones in the district to be listed. Below is a breakdown of rankings for the district with links to the full list.
