FORSYTH COUNTY, Ga. — Editor's Note: A previous version of this story reported that Denmark High School's Finley Kruchten died following a pulmonary embolism due to reporting from the high school. A spokesperson of the Forsyth County School District says that Kruchten had been declared brain dead as the family goes through the organ donation process.
A Forsyth County football player has been declared brain dead after suffering cardiac arrest due to a massive pulmonary embolism, according to the school district.
Finley Kruchten, a football player at Denmark High School, was declared brain dead on Wednesday, over a week after he suffered cardiac arrest from a pulmonary embolism, according to posts from his family member on CaringBridge.
An online fundraiser said that doctors were able to remove the clot, but he suffered a deep brain trauma.
His mother added to the CaringBridge post, "Finley has always been a helper. He was kind to everyone. We know Finley would want to help as many people as possible, so we are working with LifeLink on the process and timeline for organ donation so Finley can continue to bless others."
Denmark High School posted to Facebook that they would host a school spirit night to honor Kruchten.
"We are deeply saddened by the loss of Denmark's Finley Kruchten. We would like to lift up Denmark High School by hosting a Spirit Night, in which proceeds will be given to the family of Finley. We hope to see you there and are sending strength and care to the Denmark Danes through this time," the school said in their post.
The school also added that they will honor Krutchen and his jersey number #74 at Friday's night game against Forsyth Central at 7:30 p.m. They are encouraging people to wear their Hawaiian shirts. The school also added that they will hold an event at Chick-fil-A at the Halcyon before the game.
Family members stated that they would update the community on a celebration of life on the CaringBridge post.
