DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — A DeKalb County deputy shot a man who was allegedly dropping off contraband at the jail on Saturday, according to a news release from the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.
The incident began when the 25-year-old suspect was allegedly seen outside the DeKalb County Jail dropping off the contraband when an officer spotted him and tried to stop him just around 1:15 a.m.
GBI agents said the suspect then allegedly ran down Memorial Drive leaving his car behind. His car was parked on the street and left running. Police officers ran after the man, but lost sight of him.
That's when a DeKalb County deputy encountered the man and fired shots at him. The man finally got into his car and drove away until officers chased him losing sight of him once again.
Later that early morning, DeKalb County Police got a call about a person shot at a home on Emerald Drive in Atlanta. When officers arrived at the home, they found the man and his car involved in the incident at the jail.
The 25-year-old was then taken to the hospital where he is expected to recover.
GBI and authorities have not listed any potential charges against the man. The GBI will continue its independent investigation.
