Deputy who authorities say was killed by teen cousin leaves behind pregnant fiancée

A GoFundMe page has been set up to raise money to start a trust fund for the baby.

An online fundraising campaign has been set up to help the family of a Coweta County deputy who authorities said was killed by his teen cousin.

Georgia Bureau of Investigation identified the 25-year-old deputy as Edmond Irvin. According to law enforcement, Irvin was shot and killed Tuesday night after getting into a physical fight with his 17-year-old cousin,  Danny Long. The shooting happened while Irvin was off-duty.

Officers were called to a home on Snow Fall Terrace at Alpine Way in Palmetto, Georgia at 9:40 p.m. Tuesday and found Irvin dead, according to the GBI.

According to the GoFundMe fundraiser launched to help the family, Irvin has a fiancée who is 5 months pregnant with the couple's son.

The GoFundMe page says it was established by employees of the Coweta County Sheriff's Office.

"After many conversations and careful consideration amongst coworkers, it has been decided that it is our responsibility to do everything in our power to help our brother realize the dreams that he had for his son in the future," the page reads.

The donations will be placed into a trust fund in the name of Deputy Irvin's son. The baby is expected to arrive in September.

The GoFundMe adds that Irving finished the academy in December 2018 and quickly adapted to his position.

As for the suspect in this case, Long was charged with one count of murder and one count of terroristic threats. The GBI is conducting an independent investigation into the shooting and then will hand it over to the Coweta County district attorney for prosecution.
