GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. — Two dogs were rescued early Sunday morning after flames ripped through a Gwinnett County home, according to fire and emergency services.
Firefighters responded shortly after 6 a.m. to a house fire at the 1800 block of Patrick Mill Place NE in Buford.
When crews arrived, they said they found a large fire and heavy smoke coming from the single-story home.
"Further investigation revealed that the radiant heat was melting the next-door neighbor’s house siding," fire officials said in a release.
Less than 30 minutes later, firefighters said they were able to get the flames under control and were about to stop the flames from spreading to the neighbor's home.
Crews were able to search the home, where they found the two dogs and were able to reunite them with their family, Gwinnett County Fire and Emergency Services said.
One adult was treated by EMS at the scene for non-life-threatening injuries. Fire officials said no one else was hurt. In total, Gwinnett County Fire said three people, along with the dogs, have been displaced.
"The homeowner told firefighters he was sleeping when a loud ‘boom’ startled him. He investigated the sound and discovered a fire in his garage. He immediately made his escape and called 911," fire officials said in the release.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
