DOUGLAS COUNTY, Ga. — A Douglas County teacher is facing a felony child molestation charge after allegations surfaced that he had inappropriate social media contact with a student, authorities said.
The Douglas County Sheriff's Office said Andrew Goswick is being held at the jail without bond. Goswick, an educator at Turner Middle School, was taken into custody after search and arrest warrants were executed at his home last week.
The active investigation against Goswick left the Douglas County School System "deeply troubled," according to a statement provided to 11Alive.
The investigation revealed that the teacher had communicated with multiple female students "late at night and without the consent or knowledge of the student’s parents," deputies said.
They learned there was sexually explicit material and conversations that took place between Goswick and students.
The school district said it placed the teacher on leave the same day they learned of the alleged misconduct; they have also started termination proceedings.
"Safeguarding the well-being of our students is our top priority, and student safety remains non-negotiable," the statement reads from the school system. "The alleged behavior is unacceptable and contradicts the values and professional standards we require of all employees."
School officials said they will continue to support law enforcement through the investigation.
