Douglasville homicide suspect in critical condition from self-inflicted wound

Police said the suspect in a Monday evening shooting death is in critical condition after a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

DOUGLASVILLE, GA -- Police said the suspect in a Monday evening shooting death is in critical condition after a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Douglasville Police were actively searching for the man they said is connected to the homicide at a home in the Augusta Woods subdivision late Monday evening. Police said they had received a 'shots fired' call from the area of Hunters Ridge Drive and Holbourne Lane after 9 p.m. Monday.

When officers arrived, they found the body of an adult woman who had been shot at least one time. Four children and their grandmother said they had witnessed the shooting. They identified Paul Humphries as the shooter, and said he was the dead woman's boyfriend.

Investigators said the incident had actually started as a domestic incident at about 5 p.m. Neighbors said they saw Humphries run off, and heard a shot.

Crews from Douglasville Police, the Douglas County Sheriff and the Georgia State Patrol began searching the area with dogs and police helicopter.
