DOUGLASVILLE, Ga. (WXIA) – A 75-year-old woman was found hog-tied and dead in a Douglasville apartment on Monday.
The woman, identified by family members as Florene Duke, was found inside her Countryside Manor apartment on Selman Drive.
Douglasville Police were looking for clues in their investigation Monday evening. Investigators were not saying yet, just how Duke was killed, just that her body was hog-tied and that some items were stolen from her apartment.
Family members said they take turns checking on Duke, and on Monday she was not answering her phone. They said a granddaughter came to the apartment to check on Duke, and found her body there at about 6 p.m.
Everyone speaks of how kind Duke was, helping her neighbors or even just strangers. She lived alone, with her dog. They said they saw her walking her dog on Monday as usual. Her grandchildren were outside the apartment Monday evening, hoping police would be able to tell them something soon.
"She was a very good woman and she would give you the shirt off of her back," said grandson Christopher Duke. "I don't know why somebody would do this. He needs to be hog-tied – whoever did it needs to be hog-tied, like they did her."
Douglasville Police were canvassing the area Monday night, checking on some cars that people saw in the area that they had not seen before.
Florene Duke had a birthday coming up next month. She would have turned 76 on Christmas Day.
