ATLANTA -- A SWAT standoff in Downtown Atlanta has ended.
It began at around 2 a.m. in the 200 block of Walker Street near Fair Street.
Atlanta Police said a woman called 911 to report that her neighbor was assaulted by a man with a gun. Police spokesman Greg Lyon said the victim was hanging out in the suspect's apartment when the suspect pulled out a gun, beat the victim in the head and face, and fired the weapon. The victim jumped to a nearby balcony to escape.
Police believed the suspect was still inside the building, so they called in a SWAT team to negotiate with him.
The incident ended at around 5 a.m., when SWAT team members used flash bangs to enter the Shoe Lounge shoe store on the ground floor of the building. Investigators searched the building, but could not find the suspect.
The victim was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital with injuries to his face and head.
Police are now working to identify the suspect.
