DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. -- DeKalb County Police are investigating an attempted kidnapping of a 12-year-old girl in the Briarlake neighborhood.
Investigators say the girl's mother called 911 to report that someone had tried to get her daughter into his car. Police say the girl was walking to the Twin Lakes Swim and Tennis Center a short distance from her house when she was accosted by the suspect.
The girl's mother told investigators the suspect was a black man driving an older, four-door, white sedan.
The Police Department says officers responded to the scene but could not find the suspect. A police spokesperson says they have stepped up patrols in the area.
Neighbors say they're disturbed by the idea that a predator might be prowling their neighborhood.
"It's very disturbing," parent Gerard Farek said. "The only silver lining is that these girls are old enough to understand what to do and to get away."
