15-year-old hit by train in Duluth taken to hospital: police

The train used the emergency brakes and sounded the horn, but could not stop in time, police said.

DULUTH, Ga. — A 15-year-old was taken to the hospital after police said the teen was hit by a train Thursday evening.

Duluth Police responded near Rock Road and Main Street just before 5:20 p.m. The teen, according to police, was walking northbound either on or near the tracks when a Norfolk Southern train - which was also traveling north -- came along.

The train used the emergency brakes and sounded the horn to alert the teen, however, the train was not able to stop in time.

The 15-year-old was taken to the hospital. On Thursday night, the teen was listed in critical but stable condition. 

Norfolk Southern provided a statement saying there were no injuries to the train crew.
