GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. -- A Gwinnett County man is accused of stealing multiple doctors' identities and using their credentials to bill insurance companies.

Choon Kyung Kim is charged with seven counts each of identity fraud, insurance fraud and practicing optometry without a license.

Last month, an optometrist in Monroe called the Gwinnett County Police Department to say Kim had stolen his financial identity. The doctor said he had begun receiving collection letters from several insurance providers for services Kim rendered.

Kim operates an eye care center in the 3700 block of Satellite Boulevard, near Steve Reynolds Boulevard. Investigators searched Kim's office and recovered about 30 boxes' worth of evidence, according to Gwinnett County Police Cpl. Deon Washington. The evidence confirmed the Monroe doctor's claims.

Washington said Kim began stealing doctors' identities as early as 2009. Over the years, he examined many patients and collected a significant amount of insurance money. His patients were unaware Kim was not a doctor.

Kim's whereabouts are unknown, according to Washington. Anyone who sees him is encouraged to call Crime Stoppers Greater Atlanta at 404-577-TIPS. Tipsters may receive up to $2,000 for information leading to an arrest and conviction.
