'Large' water main break in Dunwoody shuts down portion of Chamblee Dunwoody Rd.

It's unclear how many residences might be affected. About a quarter-mile of the road is shut down.

DUNWOODY, Ga. — A roughly quarter-mile portion of Chamblee Dunwoody Road in Dunwoody was closed early Monday morning after a water main break police described as "large."

Dunwoody Police posted on X at 5:35 a.m. that the road was closed in both directions between St. Andrews Cir. and Dunwoody Walk.

DeKalb County Watershed Management said in a statement that roughly 40 homes were impacted. People living in the area tell 11Alive there have been no less than three water main breaks in the area over the last six years and they hope the County will step in and take measures to prevent future incidents from happening.

"DeKalb Watershed and Public Works has been notified," Dunwoody Police said.

Crews were seen in the area Monday working to fix the issue.

"It's been kind of crazy cause you know this morning the water leaked so me my dad and my brother had to walk all the way to school and we had to jump across the water," young Benny said. He lives in the area.

He said the water was still off when he got home from school.

Neighbors said similar water main breaks had happen in the past. By 5 p.m., a member of the crew said they had replaced the broken piece of pipe. Water is expected to resume by Monday evening, according to a county official.
