Eight units destroyed in fire at East Point apartment complex

A call was made to emergency responders just after 7:30 a.m. where they reported seeing heavy smoke coming from the apartment units located at 3281 Desert Drive.

EAST POINT, Ga. — After a fire broke out at an East Point apartment complex on Friday morning, some residents are left without a home. 

A call was made to emergency responders just after 7:30 a.m. where they reported seeing heavy smoke coming from the apartment units located at 3281 Desert Drive. 

When fire crews arrived, they immediately began to put out the fire. East Point Fire authorities said that at least eight units had significant fire and water damage. 

Luckily, no one was injured. 

College Park Firefighters and East Point Police assisted with response to the fire and traffic control. 

Authorities said that the Red Cross was contacted to help those who have been displaced.

Fire officials are still investigating what caused the fire.
