15-year-old arrested in connection with deadly East Point carjacking

The victim allegedly complied with the armed men but was shot in the neck anyway

EAST POINT, Ga. -- Police say a 15-year-old has been arrested after they released a series of "person of interest" photos while trying to solve a brutal carjacking death.

Police responded on Tuesday to a call of a carjacking and homicide in the area of 4051 Fox Hunt Ln. They arrived to find a 24-year-old man with the gunshot wound that ultimately killed him at the scene.

Upon speaking with a witness, police learned that he and the victim, later identified as 24-year-old Terrick Mathews, were inside a vehicle when they were approached by three men - one of them brandishing a gun.

The witness said that they demanded the two get out of the vehicle - which they did. But he said the suspect with the gun fired anyway, striking the victim in the neck.

They left the scene in the stolen vehicle but it was later found on Old Hapeville Road where it was set on fire. The latest development, photos from a gas station, they hope will lead police to someone with knowledge of the crime.

Right now, they have one of the pictured suspects in custody but haven't released his name due to his age. They also have a warrant for the arrest of a second but haven't yet released that name either.

In the meantime, they're asking anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers to remain anonymous at 404-577-8477 (TIPS) or call Sgt. Michaud directly at 404-559-6225.
