HABERSHAM COUNTY, Ga. — Habersham County Emergency Services along with several other departments helped rescue an injured driver whose vehicle had overturned into a ravine on Monday night.

A single-vehicle wreck was reported after 5:30 p.m. on March 4 in the area of Crane Mill Road, just down from a four-way stop at Mud Creek Road.

Habersham County Emergency Services, Baldwin Fire Department, Cornelia Fire Department, Gainesville Fire Department and the Habersham County Sheriff's Office responded to the scene.

When they arrived, HCES Battalion Chief Brandon Whitney said the incident required multiple crews as it was an elderly woman who ran off the road and was 70 feet down an embankment. It looked like her car rolled multiple times, and she was trapped inside the vehicle, according to authorities.

"The patient did have to be extricated, the door removed, and she was removed from the vehicle at this time and secured in a stokes basket with a blackboard," Whitney stated.

A ropes system was then used to pull the patient up the steep embankment into safety, a release said.

The woman was taken to the hospital, and Georgia State Patrol is investigating the incident.
