Ex-Falcons player Jamal Anderson arrested in Gwinnett after $50 dispute with limo driver

The former Atlanta Falcon was arrested for public drunkenness in Lawrenceville.

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. — A former Atlanta Falcons running back was arrested in Gwinnett County, Sunday.

According to public records, Lawrenceville Police arrested Jamal Anderson Dec. 23 on a charge of public drunkenness. He was booked into the Gwinnett County Jail around 5:30 a.m. He was released the same day after posting $213 bond.

According to a police report from the Lawrenceville Police Department, officers were called to a RaceTrac on Buford Drive for reports of a dispute between Anderson and a limo driver.

The report said the driver picked up Anderson at a QT on Sydney Marcus Boulevard before heading off to the given location off Buford Drive. However, when the driver got to the area, he couldn't find that address. The driver pulled off into the RaceTrac to get a better one, but that's when Anderson reportedly got out of the limo and walked inside the store, stiffing the driver the $50 fare.

Police arrived to find Anderson walking out of the store. They asked for his ID, but he reportedly kept pulling out a pack of cigarettes. Officers eventually asked to search Anderson for his ID, but they didn't find it or a wallet.

Officers placed Anderson under arrest for public drunkenness after smelling alcohol coming off him. The limo driver decided not to prosecute over the $50 fare.

This is not the first time Anderson has been arrested for allegedly breaking the law while being under the influence.

In 2014, the former Falcons player was booked on DUI and improper stopping charges. Before that, in 2012, the was arrested for another DUI after police said they found him asleep at the wheel at an intersection with I-85. That charge was later dismissed, and Anderson pleaded guilty to a reckless driving charge.

More recently, in 2016, he was arrested for allegedly driving on a suspended license and a probation violation.

Anderson played eight seasons for the Atlanta Falcons before leaving the team in 2001 for a knee injury.
