Pilot, passenger dead after plane crashes in Paulding County, FAA says

It is unknown at this time what caused the crash at Crawford Road.

ROCKMART, Georgia — Two men onboard a single-engine plane are dead after it crashed in Rockmart on Wednesday afternoon.

Around 2 p.m., a Grumman American AA-5 crashed into a wooded area near 375 Crawford Road in unincorporated Paulding County, according to a Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) statement. 

When the plane did not arrive back at the scheduled time the owner of the aircraft notified authorities, Paulding County Sherriff's office said. Responders began searching the last known location of the plane. 

When responders arrived to the scene of the crash they found two people dead. Sungwook Lee, 27, and Jonathan Lara, 27, were identified as the people inside the plane, the Paulding County coroner told 11Alive. 

It is unknown at this time what caused the crash. The FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) will investigate, with the NTSB leading.
