Delays, cancelations mount at Atlanta's Hartsfield-Jackson due to FAA outage

The FAA told all airlines to pause domestic takeoffs until 9 a.m. as it scrambled to fix a critical system, causing widespread delays - and now cancelations.

ATLANTA — Delays are causing major problems at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport as the FAA ordered all airlines to pause domestic flights as they scrambled to fix a critical system on Wednesday morning.

According to the flight tracking website FlightAware, there have already been 800 delayed flights to and from the world's busiest airport in Atlanta as of 4 p.m. So far 63 flights have been canceled.

The FAA pause lasted until 9 a.m. However, around 8:20 a.m., they said that some departing flights had resumed in Atlanta.

The Federal Aviation Administration, which is responsible for air travel regulations, confirmed through an advisory that its "NOTAM" system went offline shortly after 11 p.m.

They said the complete pause was to "allow the agency to validate the integrity of flight and safety information."

If you are traveling anywhere in the country today, you are likely to experience some sort of delay as this nationwide pause will surely cause a ripple effect for hours.
