Arson suspected after fires spark, equipment burned at Fayetteville construction site: officials

11Alive confirmed with authorities that the site belongs to Brasfield & Gorrie, the contracting company of the future Atlanta Public Safety Training Center.

ATLANTA — Fayetteville Police and Fire are investigating after flames sparked at a construction site early Tuesday morning.

The City of Fayetteville Public Safety posted on social media that it happened at the construction site next to the Piedmont Fayette Hospital campus, which is located along Highway 54 W.

Investigators said several pieces of construction equipment were burned and arson is suspected.

Local, state and federal law enforcement are working on collecting evidence and leads for the case. Investigators added they would release more information once it becomes available.

11Alive confirmed with authorities that the site belongs to Brasfield & Gorrie, the contracting company of the future Atlanta Public Safety Training Center, which opponents call "Cop City."

In January, a previous arson investigation began after a fire was set at another construction site along Burroughs Street in Atlanta's Chosewood Park neighborhood. In that incident, Atlanta Police Chief Darin Schierbaum said they believed it to be a "targeted attack" on the company building the public safety training center.

Anyone with information about the Fayetteville incident is asked to call the Fayetteville Police Department at 770-461-4441 or Crime Stoppers at 404-631-4019.
