ROCKDALE COUNTY, Ga. — Deputies say multiple roads in Rockdale County are now closed due to a fire at the BioLab facility on Old Covington Highway.

The sheriff's office is encouraging folks to avoid the area and follow detour signs for getting around.

At this time, officials say "safety measures are in place to protect the public."

Still, residents are encouraged to remain indoors and keep windows closed to minimize exposure to any potential hazards.

One resident 11Alive spoke to, who lives less than a mile from the facility, said she was asked to evacuate around 7 a.m. Sunday morning.

At this time, there is no word on how long it will take to put out the fire.
