Atlanta fire officials confirmed that four people were killed in a small plane crash in northwest Atlanta on Thursday.
The plane went down in a football field near Fulton Industrial Boulevard and Donald Lee Hollowell Parkway. The Federal Aviation Administration said the plane was a Cessna V Jet.
Atlanta Fire spokesperson Cortez Stafford said the jet plane took off from the nearby Fulton County Airport.
When fire crews arrived, Stafford said they saw flames. They checked for survivors and began extinguishing the fire.
"The aircraft is basically completely destroyed," Stafford said. "It's spread out about 100 yards and it looks like it slid through the field. There's not a whole lot of pieces left other than the tail section."
Stafford said one home behind the football field appeared to suffer some damage from the plane crash. No injuries were reported from the home.
The plane crashed near a busy highway in an area with nearby neighborhoods and Interstate 285.
"With the crash happening here, it's just lucky that ended up where it did and we don't have any further injuries on the ground," Stafford said.
The victims from the plane have not been identified, and it's destination has not been announced.
The FAA and the NTSB will take over the investigation. The crash happened a day after another small plane crash in Blairsville that killed three people. Those victims were identified on Thursday.
