Fireworks cause of New Year's house fire in Suwanee: firefighters

Fire officials say the cause of the fire was due to improper disposal of fireworks.

GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. — A fire at a home in Suwanee over New Year's weekend is believed to have been caused by fireworks, according to Gwinnett County fire officials.

Fire crews responded overnight Sunday to the home in the 4600 block of Camber Well Lane and found heavy fire at the back of the house spreading into the attic. Firefighters quickly worked to extinguish the blaze. 

No one was injured in the fire, and residents were able to safely exit the home. 

Residents told fire officials that they had placed used fireworks in a trash can on the rear of home. The cause of the fire was determined to be accidental due to improper disposal of fireworks.

There is no word on how many residents were displaced or how severely the home was damaged.
