ATLANTA — The Walgreens location at Five Points in downtown Atlanta, known for its iconic Coca-Cola sign hanging over the top, is shuttering next month.
A Walgreens spokesperson told 11Alive on Sunday that the location on Peachtree Street will be closing due to several factors, including the dynamics of local markets, changes to customers' buying habits, and the existing footprint of stores.
In their statement, the pharmacy and retail store said they are working with patients to get their prescriptions sent to other stores.
In addition to redirecting patients, all employees at the location were offered employment at nearby stores, according to a spokesperson.
"We know that our customers and patients rely on our stores and trust our team members for their healthcare needs. And, when we must close a store, it affects them and their community. Our priority is to ensure a smooth transition for our customers and team members during this time," the pharmacy and retail store said in its statement.
The closing comes almost two weeks after the RaceTrac near Georgia State University closed due to safety concerns. The former Racetrac and the Walgreens are just half a mile apart from each other.
