GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. — Firefighters jumped into action to rescue a man and a dog from a house fire in Lawrenceville early Wednesday morning, according to Gwinnett County Fire.
Crews responded to the blaze at 2:35 a.m. at the 3500 block of River Drive SW. The homeowner called 911, saying their house was on fire and that four people inside were trying to evacuate. When firefighters arrived at 2:42 a.m., the homeowner told them three people had made it out, but her brother was still trapped inside the house.
Gwinnett Fire said crews deployed multiple fire hoses to combat the flames, and search teams rescued a man and a dog. According to the fire department, they were provided medical treatment on the scene.
Fire investigators said the home's roof partially collapsed on the first floor, destroying the back deck. Around 3:30 a.m., firefighters were able to get the flames under control.
Crews took the man who had non-life-threatening injuries to the hospital, and two additional people were treated and released at the scene. They also had non-life-threatening injuries, Gwinnett Fire added.
Firefighters also provided the dog with a pet oxygen mask and released the pet back to the homeowners for ongoing care.
The American Red Cross is assisting the four people who were displaced by the fire. Fire investigators believe the cause of the fire was accidental due to the home's electrical system.
