ATLANTA -- Hundreds of flowers have been laid on the front lawn of the Ansley Golf Club as a memorial for a young girl who drowned there last week.

Elliot Githins, 4, passed away after a tragic accident on May 9.

Githins was a preschooler at Haygood Memorial United Methodist Church. Family members said in a statement that the little girl had a bright smile and a gentle soul.

Club Member Cindy Smith said as a mother, she felt moved to bring flowers on Mother's Day.

"I just can't imagine going through this alone, on Mother's Day. I'm so thankful that so many people came out here to show their support," said Smith.

So many people came out Sunday morning that the club had security officers directing traffic for the drop off.
