North Georgia firefighter tragically dies in crash while off-duty

The fire department took to social media asking they keep his family in their prayers.

ROME, Ga. — A Rome/Floyd County firefighter has sadly passed away after he was involved in an off-duty single-vehicle crash in metro Atlanta.

Cpl. Garrett Kent died on Friday while driving in Paulding County, according to Georgia State Patrol. Troopers said they responded to a crash at 7:30 p.m. on Pine Shadows Drive. Kent was driving his Ford F-250 pickup truck when he lost control on a curve, troopers said.

His truck veered off the road before it hit a mailbox and a tree before finally crashing into a group of trees. GSP said Kent was not wearing a seatbelt and was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.

Rome/Floyd County Fire Department took to social media to share a photo of Kent, who can be seen on the left, asking that the community keep his family and the department's firefighters in their prayers.

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Corporal Garrett Kent. We ask that you keep his family and our department’s brothers and sisters in your prayers during this difficult time.
